In this webinar, we aim to illustrate the socioeconomic conditions and migration pathways of the Filipino teachers studied in Japan and Thailand. The presentations by Sarausad and Barredo will highlight the various ways in which these Filipino teachers have been at the margins especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bulado will share her experiences as a former Filipino teacher in Thailand. Carlos will analyze the international stepwise migration behavior of Filipino English teachers in Japan, and explore how the profession has provided opportunities for economic stability, social mobility and professional recognition.
